Charlotte, NC — Postponement Suggested
April 2013
According to Charlotte Observer's web site, Charlotte's new City Manager Ron Carlee is considering separating the streetcar project from less controversial parts of the city's capital plan for more study.
Though he advocates the extended streetcar project, Carliee may not be able to complete his ananlysis of the economic benefits of the project before his budget is due in May.
One key factor is the report of a task force analyzing means of financing transit projects. The 1.5-mile starter streetcar project is under construction now, but controversy surrounds $119 million plans to extend the line by 2.5 miles.
Carlee came to his position in Charlotte on April1 from Arlington, VA, where he advocated the proposed Columbia Pike streetcar project. |
