Charlotte, NC — No TIGER Funding
September 2013
On September 3, the Federal Department of Transportation announced winners of the final round of TIGER funding, but Charlotte was not included, WCNC television reported.
However, city officials remain undaunted as there will be other federal grants in the future, and this was only the first application for funding for the streetcar project.
The funding was denied despite the fact that former Mayor Anthony Foxx, who championed the Charlotte streetcar project, is now Federal Secretary of Transportation. He recused himself from the decision.
Kansas City was the only city to recieve funding for a new streetcar system in this round of grants. |
