Charlotte, NC — Council Approves Extensions
June 2015
The Charlotte Observer reports that Charlotte's City Council has approved $7.7 million for engineering design work for an extension of the Gold Line streetcar line in Uptown. The 1.5-mile starter line is due to open July 14. If federal funding is secured, that line will be extended on both the east and west ends. "The city is expected to pay $75 million of the $150 million cost of the second phase of the project. The other half could be paid with a grant in President Barack Obama’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year." But funding is not assured for the extension so all alternative sources of money will be examined. |
