The Charlotte Observer reports that the Gold Line streetcar will be shut down for 18 months starting June 3 so that the 2.5 mile extension can be connected to the starter line and so that needed changes can be made to platforms and power supply to allow operation of modern streetcars. The replica streetcars now in use will no longer be able to operate on the line.
