Dallas — Turntable and Park Boost RidershipDecember 2012
The opening of the so-called "deck park" over Woodall Rodgers Freeway has spurred a ridership increase that could reach 28% by year end, according to McKinney Avenue Transit Authority chief operations officer John Landrum. As reported in the Dallas News, on the weekend the park opened, streetcars carried 6,000 passengers on a single day, dramatically higher than the 800 riders typically carried on a Sunday.
Once an under construction loop through downtown is completed, even more riders are expected. Growing numbetrs of residences in the Uptown district will likely also attract more riders, both for leisure and for commuting.
MATA is working to expand its fleet of historic streetcars to cope with the anticipated growth.
