Dallas — Service Reaches Downtown
June 2015
Dallas' second streetcar opening within two months occurred in May when the McKinney Avenue Transit Authority (MATA) heritage trolley line opened its extension reaching into the edge of downtown, and connecting with two DART light rail stations. After the Oak Cliff modern streetcar line opened to Union Station in April, the historic cars operated by MATA also made it to downtown.
The Dallas Morning News reported that DART and MATA hope to connect the streetcar and trolley lines, which would provide a direct link from the the northern edge of Uptown to the Bishop Arts District south of the Trinity River.
Council member Philip Kingston lauded the M-Line for helping to spur massive redevelopment in Uptown in recent decades. |
