Dallas — Streetcar Projects Progress
Rail Transit Online, October 2009
City transportation planners will unveil a business plan to the city council next month for a downtown streetcar line running along Elm and Commerce between Houston and Pearl streets.
The $77-million project would be financed by regional transportation funds, bonds,
loans and tax increment financing districts. During a committee briefing, Councilman Ron Natinsky said he supports fast-tracking the first line and conducting a long-term study of streetcars serving other parts of the city. "By the end of the year we could officially
say we're in the streetcar business." said Natinsky. "We may not have any cars, may not have any track, but we're in the streetcar business. I think once everyone starts riding these streetcars downtown, everybody's going to want one in their neighborhood."
