Dallas — Streetcar Makes Progress
Rail Transit Online, August 2011
The Federal Transit Authority has issued a "finding of no significant impact" (FONSI) for the proposed Dallas-Oak Cliff streetcar, bringing the project closer to construction.
A DART spokesman said officials are hoping
to start work around next March and have the $35-million, 1.6-mi. (2.57 km) line open by December 2013; funding is already in place.
Prior to issuing the FONSI, the FTA received preliminary design details of the scheme
from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which is the applicant of record. However, the project is owned by the City of Dallas and DART is in charge of design and construction.
