Memphis — Ridership Record

The memphisflyer.com site reports that the Memphis Area Transit Authority's trolley lines set a ridership record for the 2013 fiscal year, with a 6.1 percent increase over 2012.

A MATA representative pointed to easy transfer from buses to trolleys for passholders as leading to increased ridership. This has been especially helpful on nights when major events are held downtown. The trolleys have become part of the experience for fans attending Memphis Grizzlies games.

Transit consulting firm Nelson\Nygaard was engaged recently to review the trolley operations. They found the system is very efficient but suggested modifying operating hours, adjusting routes, and offering more trips to the public. MATA's management is reviewing the recommendations.
