The downtown Main Street Trolley loop resumed operation on Apr. 6, three months after it was closed to allow installation of turnouts and catenary at the intersection of Madison and Main streets for the $74.6-million Medical Center extension.  In addition, an existing station on the east side of Main at Madison was relocated and the streetcars were given a cosmetic upgrade.  More than two-thirds of the trackwork for the extension has been completed and the 2.5-mi. (4 km), six-station project should open in March 2004.  The trolley’s 10th anniversary will be celebrated near Central Station on April 26.
