New
Orleans Regional Transit Authority Approves Brookville Truck Assemblies and
Power Systems
Brookville Equipment Corporation’s newly introduced PCC-style
truck assemblies and power systems have been approved by New Orleans RTA for
use on the Canal Street project. Operation of the Brookville trucks is
controlled by the Saminco A300 Vintage Street Car drive system.
“Brookville has been manufacturing rail-mounted
equipment since the company’s founding in 1918, so the step into mass
transportation was a natural progression” states Mr. Dalph McNeil, President
of Brookville Equipment Corporation. “We researched the market thoroughly
and believed we could make significant contributions before entry. We are
pleased to offer a domestically manufactured truck assembly and drive
systems, which truly modernizes the PCC car without affecting the historical
appearance.”
According to Mr. Don Hyde, who is Project Administrator
for New Orleans RTA, he is “completely satisfied and impressed” with the
quality of the work.
Elmer von Dullen, Superintendent of Vehicle Assembly
for New Orleans RTA said “the drive and truck assemblies have exceeded all
expectations. Brookville is very cooperative and easy to work with.”
Fred Basha, Project Manager-Vehicles, feels “It is
truly a pleasure working with Brookville. We are very pleased with the work
Brookville has done”.
According to New Orleans RTA’s website, “ Six million
riders currently traverse Canal Street via five Canal bus lines. Replacing
these busses with streetcars will allow for a significant reduction in the
cost of providing public transit on Canal Street”. Brookville’s contract
with New Orleans RTA includes supplying and installing all electrical and
drive components on 23 Perley A. Thomas type streetcars. According to Jay
Rafferty, Brookville’s on-site Project Manager, “we are extremely pleased to
be able to play a part in New Orleans history.”
Brookville is a privately owned American company
manufacturing products for the mass transit, airline, mining, tunneling, and
industrial markets. In addition to the New Orleans RTA project, Brookville
-- in collaboration with its partners Pacifica Marine (Seattle, WA), and MGB
(Germany) -- has a two year project with the Southeastern Pennsylvania
Transportation Authority (SEPTA) for the complete restoration and
modernization of 18 vintage Philadelphia PCC cars.
