New Orleans — Loyola Connection Begins
September 2012
Streetcar service on part of the Canal Street line is to be suspended as of mid-September so that contractors can install the switches and curves that will connect the new Loyola line to the Canal line. Buses will provide interim service for streetcar riders around the construction site.
Rails are being laid along the Loyola route and some shelters at future streetcar stops are already in place.
Despite some delays caused by Hurricane Isaac, the Regional Transit Authority still expects the line to be finished in time to serve the 2013 Super Bowl to be held in the nearby Superdome. |
