New Orleans — Construction Completion
July 2016
In mid-July construction crews began the curb-to-curb final asphalt paving for the new North Rampart Street/St. Claude Avenue streetcar line. The work marks the end of construction on the 1.6-mile extension.
The paving would be done one lane at a time, beginning with the inside travel lanes, and should last three to four weeks. The project outreach team will work with businesses, residents and property owners along the line to inform them of parking lane closures and other impacts.
The line's grand opening is trageted for late August or early September.
The North Rampart streetcar line will connect New Orleans' French Quarter and Treme neighborhoods to the Loyola and Canal Street lines. The cars used on the line will come from the stock of Perley-Thomas replica cars built in-house for the Canal line a dozen years ago. |
