Restoration of the St. Charles Avenue streetcar line to Napoleon Avenue will occur sometime during October, according to Regional Transit Authority spokeswoman Rosalind Blanco Cook. The line’s 600-volt traction power system, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, is being rebuilt at a cost of $14.2 million. A test car successfully ran from Lee Circle to Napoleon on Sept. 26, and the RTA planned to send 10 streetcars down the segment on Oct. 1. Cook said the entire line to Carrollton could be running by spring 2008.
