Portland — Single Track Bottleneck to be Realigned
February 2014
Portland City Council is considering a realignment of a bottleneck where single track exists on its westside loop route, the Portland Tribune reported . If the council approves the project, construction could begin as soon as this summer. The council was scheduled to consider a measure to accept a $1.5 million grant from the Portland Development Commission to design the new alignment at its February 19 meeting.
The funds would cover design of a double-track alignment along parts of Southwest Fourth Avenue and Montgomery Street to replace the single track there now.
The current alignment reportedly causes delays on the westside streetcar system, and would also affect the new eastside system when the bridge crossing the Willamette River is completed bringing eastside cars to the same area. |
