Portland — Streetcar Extension
Rail Transit Online, September 2007
Another short extension of the Portland Streetcar
opened on Aug. 17, bringing the tracks further into the South Waterfront
redevelopment area. The $14.5-million loop runs south from the previous
terminal at SW Gibbs along SW Moody to SW Lowell, then north on SW Bond back
to Gibbs, a total of 0.6 mi. (1 km). The streetcar route now totals 7.8 mi.
(12.6 km) and serves downtown, the Pearl District, Portland State
University, RiverPlace and the South Waterfront District, where numerous
high-rise residential buildings have been built or are planned. |
