Portland — Streetcar Closes for Construction
Rail Transit Online, September 2010
Portland's entire downtown streetcar system was closed for two weeks beginning Sept. 13 while a track connection was made between the existing line in the Pearl District and the new 28-stop eastside segment.
Officially called the Portland Streetcar Loop Project, the 3.3-mi. (5.3 km) route runs across the Broadway Bridge to Lloyd Center, then south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. The return route travels north on Grand Avenue to Broadway and the Pearl District.
During the suspension, TriMet will operate a temporary free bus service along the entire streetcar alignment.
