Tucson — Ridership Exceeds Expectations
October 2014
The cleantechnica.com web site reports that ridership has grown considerably over the first two months of operation of Tucson's Sun Link modern streetcar line.
In the initial days in mid to late summer, the line met the projected 3,600 passengers per day. However, when the University of Arizona's school year began in September ridership nearly doubled. The site quotes Sun Link Project Manager Shellie Ginn as saying that the line is carrying not just students: "It’s exciting to see every generation’s out there – families, young people…university students, working class, people who are attending events, social events, cultural events, athletic events.”
Businesses along the line are also citing increased foot traffic and growth in revenue. |
