Tucson ― Streetcar Bidding Begins

Bidding was opened on Oct. 28 for construction of Tucson's $197-million modern streetcar project, with final proposals due by the end of November and a contract award expected before year's end.
Design has already been completed on the
3.6-mi. (5.8 km) line, seven vehicles have been ordered from United Streetcar and
initial work has already begun on the Cushing Street Bridge, a drainage project and utility relocation.
Revenue service is tentatively scheduled
for 2013. The line will connect the University of Arizona campus, the University Medical Center, downtown, the Fourth Avenue shopping district and the Rio Nuevo cultural center.
