Atlanta — Streetcar Image Unveiled
September 2012
Officials in Atlanta have unveiled a rendering of what the city's new downtown modern streetcar line will look like, WXIA television reports. The city is buying Siemens S70 "platforms," configured at the company's Sacramento, Calif., factory as streetcars, meaning no multiple-unit couplers, and possibly other detail changes. The S70 was designed for use in multiple car trains on light rail systems and operates in Houston and San Diego among other cities. Atlanta is the first city to use the S70 as a streetcar.
The above image shows a car at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market stop, the only one with the station platform in the median of the street. Others will be along the curb. The line is expected to begin carrying passengers in 2013. |
