Atlanta — Contract Increased by $7 million

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority board has approved $7 million in additional spending for Atlanta's downtown modern streetcar project, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

The initial construction contract based on the preliminary design with URS Energy and Construction was for $52.2 million. The additional $7 million increases the contract to $59 million to pay for changes to the line's design and to establish a contingency fund to cover any further changes.

The new features to be paid by the increase include improvements to the streetscapes, lanes for bicycles, and other amenities along the initial 2.7-mile route.
