Atlanta — April 2014 Opening Planned
October 2013
Atlanta will debut its 2.7-mile urban circulator streetcar service by the end of April 2014 and the first three months will offer free rides, the Atlanta Curbed site reports.
This news was delivered by Atlanta's deputy commissioner of public works and the streetcar project's executive director, Tim Borchers, briefed downtown neighbors.
Borchers said construction is on time (following earlier delays) and $2 million under budget.
After the three month free ride period, fares will be $1 on streetcars until MARTA's fare system is adjusted to include the streetcar.
Borchers also said traffic lights along the route will be timed to minimize delays for streetcars.
