Atlanta — Peachtree Project
Rail Transit Online, August 2009
An application will be filed for a $300-million federal economic stimulus grant for the Peachtree streetcar, a project that's been stalled since last year because of municipal budget shortfalls.
Central Atlanta Progress and the Midtown Alliance, organizations supported by the business community, have agreed
to contribute up to $300,000 each to further study the proposal, which would connect downtown, Midtown and the King Center with Centennial Olympic Park.
The grant application ordinance, approved by the city council on an 11-3 vote, has to be filed by a Sept. 15 deadline. It will include suggested extensions along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, to Grant Park, to the downtown government district and to Ft. McPherson if funds become available.
