Cincinnati — Streetcar Study Expanded
Rail Transit Online, March 2008
The city council on Mar. 12 voted 6-3 to spend $800,000 to expand environmental studies and an alternatives analysis for a proposed streetcar system. The money, which will come from surpluses left over by various city
capital projects, would be used to analyze an extension of a $102-million, 3.9-mi (6.3 km) route between downtown and the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood to Uptown, Clifton-area hospitals and the University of Cincinnati.
Proponents said the wider study is necessary if the project is to be eligible for federal funding. Preliminary plans call for the starter segment to open in 2010 and serve up to 5,600 daily riders.
