Colorado Springs — Streetcar Study in Prospect
Rail Transit Online, October 2008
A coalition of government, business and transportation leaders plans to hire a consultant in November to study a streetcar line connecting a park-and-ride lot at Interstate 25 with downtown and the local campus of the University of Colorado. Funding
will come from the private sector and a federal grant, with completion planned for next spring.
Among the issues to be analyzed
are construction and operating costs, benefits to redevelopment — a driving force behind the streetcar plan — and
possible funding sources. The coalition includes the Downtown Partnership, the Downtown Development Authority, Mountain Metropolitan Transit and Colorado College. The last streetcar ran in Colorado Springs 76 years ago. |
