Colorado Springs — Bids Due for Streetcar Study
Rail Transit Online, February 2009
Bids from consultants were due on Jan. 28 for a feasibility study on a proposed streetcar line in the Nevada Avenue corridor connecting downtown with the University of Colorado campus. The analysis will investigate route alternatives,
capital costs, what type of car should be used, how the line would affect redevelopment plans and possible funding sources.
The study, which will start by Mar. 1 and be completed in about a year, will
cost between $150,000 and $250,000 and is primarily financed by a $132,500 FTA grant. Colorado Springs' original streetcar system served downtown, the west side and Manitou Springs but closed in 1932.
