Denver — Colfax Streetcar Study Advances
Rail Transit Online, March 2009
The long-planned East Colfax Avenue streetcar has received a $2-million boost from the Federal Transit Administration. The money will be used for a feasibility study in the congested 7.5-mi. (12 km) Colfax corridor between the state Capitol in downtown
Denver and a medical center in Aurora, which already experiences bus overcrowding.
The modern streetcar has widespread support from stakeholders along the route and a preliminary analysis has suggested there would be mobility and economic
investment benefits. No specific capital funding sources have been identified, but it's assumed that a combination of federal and local financing would be sought should a decision be made to begin construction.
