El Paso, TX — International Link Under Consideration
February 2017
The El Paso City Council planned on February 6 to discuss a possible transit link across the international border to connect the west Texas city with Juarez, Mexico, KVIA television reported. The international PCC streetcar line between the two cities was discontinued in 1974. The new El Paso heritage PCC line now under construction will end a few blocks north of the international border.
The Council meeting was to discuss funding options for a feasibility study for a transnational multi-modal pedestrian oriented project that would move people across the border more efficiently.
The route for El Paso's new streetcar project stops about a few blocks from the Paso Del Norte bridge Downtown. The discussion will center on a possible monorail or additional trolley route to go back and forth across the border. |
