El Paso, TX — Tourist and Shopping Resurgence
July 2017
Downtown El Paso is hoping for a resurgence of tourists and shoppers when the heritage PCC streetcar line opens and officials also expect a reduction in auto traffic congestion, the borderzine.com site reports. The 4.8-mile car line, will link the area just north of Juarez, Mexico, on the U.S. side of the international border with downtown El Paso and the University of Texas-El Paso [UTEP] campus.
“The benefits excel beyond just downtown,” said Martin Bartlett, a spokesman for the El Paso Streetcar Project. “It really is about picking those destinations and giving residents and visitors another choice to travel between those amenities.”
