Gainesville — Streetcar Ranked Top PriorityJanuary 2014
According to the Alligator web site, the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization, an joint city and county group, recently revised the ranking of its projects, making the concept study for the streetcar the number one priority.
The feasibility study was funded by the city in 2012.
The study, which is currently underway, is evaluating the option of connecting the University of Florida, Innovation Square, downtown, and surrounding areas by a streetcar line.
The study is expected to be finished in the coming months and could show that the streetcar would help encourage residents to move downtown from suburbs and would encourage other economic development along the route. |
