Kansas City — System Operator SelectedApril 2014
The Kansas City Business Journal reports that Herzog Transit Servces Inc. has been chiosen by the Kansas City Streetcar Authority to operate the 2.2-mile downtown streetcar line. If the city government confirms the choice, Herzog will consult on remaining construction isseus and will develop operating procedures and rules. Subsequently the firm will hire and train operating and maintenance staff, test cars as they are delivered, plus conduct all safety certification.
The cost of the expected five year contact has not yet been negotiated but operating costs had previously been estimaed to start at $2.8 million per year.
A groundbreaking to mark the start of utility relocation work will likely happen in May. A joint venture of Herzog Contracting (not related to Herzog Transit) and Stacy and Witbeck will build the line under an $85.3 million contract. |
