Little Rock — Barn Raising
Rail Transit Online, October 2002
The Central Arkansas Transit Authority on Sept. 17
staged a groundbreaking ceremony for the River Rail streetcar project’s
trolley barn in North Little Rock. The $18.35-million, 2.2-mi. (3.54 km)
project will link the downtowns of Little Rock and North Little Rock when it
opens in summer 2004. In addition to the maintenance facility, work is also
beginning on adapting the Main Street Bridge over the Arkansas River for
streetcar operation. The line will be operated by replica vintage
streetcars from Gomaco similar to those already delivered to the Tampa-Ybor
City line in Florida. |
