As the SMART diesel light rail commuter line nears opening, leaders in Marin County are calling for a network of streetcar lines that will connect with the commuter rail and with ferries to San Francisco, as well as coming within a half mile of 70% of the residents of towns and cities in the county, which lies at the northern end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
