Middletown, CT — Streetcar Study Considered
Rail Transit Online, September 2009
City planners are discussing using part of a $10-million, five-year federal transit grant to study a streetcar line along Main Street
from the North End to the South Green. Redevelopment Agency member Jennifer Alexander said the cost would be about
$10 million a mile ($6.2 million per km), but there would be long-lasting benefits.
"I can think of few things that impact economic development a much as a
tracked streetcar," she told the Middletown Press. "It's so much more than just a transit and parking solution."
The community, located about 18 mi. south of Hartford, was once served by the regional Connecticut streetcar system.
