Streetcar Proposals
The oft proposed concept of building a streetcar line on Manhattan's 42nd
Street periodically finds some private support, but has never been adopted by
the transit agency and government.
Also in New York various proposals have been discussed for bringing streetcars back to the Borough of Brooklyn. Most recently, Mayor Bill de Blasio has proposed a line that would follow along the East River in Brooklyn and Queens, a 16-mile scenic ride. The project is known as BQX, short for Brooklyn-Queens Express.
