Ogden, UT — Transit System Study Approved
May 2013
The Standard Examiner reports that Ogden's City Council voted to authorize a study for a streetcar or bus rapid transit line that would connect the Utah Transit Authority's Intermodal Hub, Webet State University, and McKay-Dee Hospital. The study will include design work plus an environmental study consistent with FTA requirements.
Two routes will be considered, with one running up 23rd Street to Washington Boulevard, then up 25th Street to Harrison Boulevard, and along Harrison to the university and the hospital.
The second would go up 23rd Street to Washington, then up 30th Street to Harrison and to WSU and the hospital.
If ridership estimates exceed 1,000 passengers per mile then streetcars would likely be the mode chosen.
The study is estimated to cost $845,000 with the UTA covering about half the cost, the City contributing $250,000, the state DOT $50,000, the University $100,000, and the hospital $20,000.
Duration of the study is estimated at 12 to 18 months. |
