Modern Streetcar Development
The Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority sponsored a
study showing the potential benefits of a downtown streetcar system. The resulting route is 4.6-miles linking Midtown and Bricktown via a loop through the central business district. Streetcars run on batteries, or "off-wire," to cross under the BNSF Railway viaduct as they enter and leave Bricktown. One goal is to extend off-wire capability to more parts of the route. Service on the new streetcar system began on December 13, 2019.
