Oklahoma City, OK — Running Time Improved

February 2019

The Oklahoman reported that steps taken by Embark and the city have cut average round-trip time on the Oklahoma City Streetcar's downtown loop. The average has been brought down from 52 to 45 minutes, according to data compiled by Embark transit. The improved times are closer to Embark's goals and resulted from equipment that gives streetcars priority at traffic signals as they travel south on Robinson Avenue.

Early users of the system have complained of varying travel times. The newly installed equipment was intended to address running and red light times. Lights at more intersections could be given the same upgrade to keep streetcars running every 10 to 12 minutes during peak weekday service hours, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Daily streetcar ridership averaged 672 in Feb. 8-14. Ridership when fares were free during a similar seven-day period last month, Jan. 11-17, averaged 1,369 daily. Fare collection began on Feb. 2.
