Philadelphia – Route 15 Streetcar Service Suspended
January 2020
On January 25, 2020 streetcar service was replaced by buses on Route 15 Girard. The future of the line is unclear. Before that date some days as few as six PCC II cars were serviceable, meaning buses were running most of the service.
SEPTA reported that the PCC II cars will receive extensive rehab work during the suspension. But many transit advocates in the city believe that the cars will never run again.
SEPTA has been working on procuring a fleet of low floor cars for all streetecr lines including the subway-surface lines in west Philadelphia currently using Kawasaki four axle cars. Some of these cars would also provide service on Route 15 as well. However, these new cars won't be available for some years. |
