Salt Lake City, UT — Award Given for Streetcar Study

Engineering consultant HDR has been awarded a contract to provide preliminary engineering and final design services for the two-mile (3.2 km) Sugar House Streetcar project.

The scope of work includes track, structures, drainage, utility relocations,
stations, street reconstruction and at-grade crossings. The deal incorporates an option for HDR to provide final design and design services during construction. Previously, the company had prepared a financial plan, environmental assessment, conceptual engineering and a successful
'TIGER II grant application. The $37-million six-station route will follow an abandoned railroad right-of-way already owned by UTA.

The scheme's sponsors are the Utah Transit Authority, South Salt Lake and Salt Lake City.
