Spokane — Streetcar Study
Rail Transit Online, July 2004
The Spokane Regional Transportation Council’s board of
directors has awarded a $160,000 contract to URS Corp. for a feasibility
study into a downtown streetcar system. It would be modeled on the
successful Portland Streetcar and would link Browne's Addition, the
Riverpoint campus the hospitals on South Hill and the Arena, with a possible
line to the West Central Neighborhood. The study, which will be finished
within a year, will examine potential ridership, routes, rolling stock,
preliminary design, station locations, an operational plan and whether the
streetcar could stimulate development.
