Surrey, B.C. — Heritage Streetcar Grants
Rail Transit Online, December 2004
The government of British Columbia and the
city of Vancouver have each donated C$75,000 to the Fraser Valley Heritage Rail
Society to help with restoration of streetcar service from Surrey to Chilliwack
in the Fraser Valley. The non-profit society hopes to obtain original B.C.
Electric Railway Co. No. 1225, now owned by the Orange Empire Railway Museum in
Perris, California. The car would initially operate on 13 mi. (21 km) of
restored track between Cloverdale and Scott Road. BCER 1225 was the last
streetcar to carry fare-paying passengers in British Columbia.
