Tempe, AZ — Construction Firm Hired

Progressive Railroading reports that the Phoenix light rail agency, Valley Metro, received board approval in mid-January to contract with Stacy and Witbeck Inc. to serve as construction manager for the Tempe Streetcar project.

The team building the line will include Valley Metro, Stacey and Witbeck, the city of Tempe, Ariz., project designer Stantec Consulting Services Inc., Tempe community members and five project artists to build the region's first streetcar line, agency officials said in a press release.

The overall schedule for the 3-mile route includes starting construction later in 2017 and startup of operations in 2020.

Stacey and Witbeck have considerable experience building streetcar and light rail projects, including 13 miles of Phoenix's light rail system and Kansas City's streetcar, among others.
