Washington, DC — Streetcars to Run by Year End
July 2013
The washingtoncitypaper.com site reported that District Department of Transportation (dDot) Director Terry Bellamy stated that the chances of streetcars carrying passengers on H-Street and Benning Road by the end of 2013 were two out of three.
This would mean that the three Czech-built streetcars that dDot has owned for some years would have completed their testing in Anacostia and would be running the two mile stretch from Union Station east. A partially completed streetcar line in Anacostia is being used for testing the cars and training currently.
Remaining work includes completion of track turnarounds at both ends of the line, installation of overhead wire and the related direct current substations, construction of an off-street storage facility for the cars, plus hiring and training staff. |
